Dr. Chris Crnich was recently awarded a 3-year R18 grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) for his project, “Building a novel antibiotic stewardship intervention for nursing homes.” The objectives of this project are to develop and evaluate a complex intervention to reduce inappropriate antibiotic use in nursing homes.
To achieve this goal, Dr. Crnich and a multi-disciplinary team will employ a systems-based approach to identify the major non-clinical factors that promote inappropriate antibiotic use in nursing homes and to tailor and implement an antibiotic stewardship intervention based on the factors identified. The impact of the intervention on facility rates of inappropriate antibiotic use as well as the influence and determinants of intervention fidelity will be examined.
