The Health Innovation Program (HIP) and the Wisconsin Collaborative for Healthcare Quality (WCHQ) partnered to present at the July WCHQ Assembly meeting. The Assembly featured presentations and discussion about diabetes care in the context of the Triple Aim: improving care, improving population health, and reducing cost.
HIP Director Dr. Maureen Smith presented on comorbidities and diabetes quality of care. She reported on diabetes quality metrics for patients in eight Wisconsin health care systems, and found that diabetic patients with comorbidities that cue the same care as diabetes have higher diabetes testing rates. Additionally, differences in patient mix and management styles explain differences in diabetes testing rates among health care systems in Wisconsin.
